My Biggest Pet Peeve

I hate when people misuse the term "going down to ____" when describing that they are going to a particular city or location. Let me explain.

When people say "I am going down to Santa Barbara for the weekend". They are wrongly using the term because Santa Barabara is North of where I currently live. It's so irritating. Basic geography is easy, people.

Incorrect Uses [based on living in LA):
I am going down to SF.
I am going down to Boston.
I am going up to San Diego.
I am going up to Texas.

If (generally) the place is North of where you live.... say UP TO
and if the place is Southern you may use DOWN.
